TLC breaks ground

Andy Gowder, Board Chair spoke at the groundbreaking about what the TLC will offer homeless families. He stated the TLC will provide a home-like environment for up to four homeless families. TLC families will have a private bedroom and bath. They will cook meals in a shared kitchen and interact with other families in shared dining and living areas. They will work with a family counselor and focus on home management, life management and parenting skills. TLC families will benefit from all of the services offered at the shelter, including case management, employment assistance and access to the primary health clinic. This transitional housing option will not only meet an immediate need for shelter, it will prepare each family for success once they return to a home of their own.
The TLC broke ground on July 19, 2007. Over 50 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Mayor Riley presented Jack Hoey, our past Board Chair for the last two years, with the first commerative brick.

Six year old Clara Pilley and her friends have collected over $2500 for the TLC playground. They presented the funds raised thus far at the groundbreaking ceremony. Clara and her friends have continued to raise more funds for the TLC playground through personal web pages and creative fundraisers.
